The area around Fossil Ridge in 1977

These are the original Roadless Area Review Evaluation (RARE) areas of 1977.

The area 20 years later

Many roads are created by Forest Service timber sales, and perpetuated by public recreation on old, supposedly closed, timber roads. There has also been a proliferation of newly pioneered routes by recreational users.

The final picture when roads are "buffered" 1/4 mile to reflect ecological impacts

For the sake of the critters and ourselves, our remaining Open Spaces on our Forest can't afford to get eaten up by more roads!

Please tell the Forest Service that you support protecting and preserving the roadless lands left on the GMUG.
