Gwen Pettit - President
Gwen Pettit is owner of Spiral Consulting which provides leadership training and coaching for organizations and small business owners. She is the current president of Gunnison Business and Professional Women and past board member of Jubilee House. Gwen has 18 years of experience in healthcare from the staff level to interim CEO at Gunnison Valley Hospital. Gwen spent 6 years on the Mt Crested Butte Town Council and served as the Mayor for two of those years. Gwen moved to Gunnison County in 1990, she enjoys camping, hiking, fly fishing, skiing and holds at third degree midnight blue belt in soo bahk do. Residence: Gunnison. Steve Schechter - Secretary
Steve is a building contractor, specializing in energy and resource efficient solar building designs . He works on issues of recreational use of public lands and water issues. He serves on the Gunnison County Democratic Central Committee and the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District board. He has lived in Gunnison County since 1978. Larry Mosher - Vice-president
Larry is a retired journalist now living in Crested Butte. He worked as a reporter and editor in New York City, Washington D.C., Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Paonia, Colorado, where he edited The High Country News for one year. While covering the environment for the weekly magazine National Journal in Washington D.C., the National Wildlife Federation named him “Communicator of the Year” for his coverage of the Reagan Administration’s attempt to reduce the nation’s environmental protection. Larry looks forward to finding solutions to the challenges ahead and is convinced that learning to live within our resources will provide answers to our future. Residence: Town of Crested Butte. Sue Navy
Sue has lived in Crested Butte since 1971 and is a founding member of HCCA. She has worked on a wide variety of issues since 1977. Sue's volunteer work focuses on land use planning, protection of the Gunnison Sage Grouse, open space and other community and public lands issues. Sue serves on the Gunnison Sage Grouse Working Group, Gunnison Basin Sage Grouse Strategic Committee, Gunnison County Sage Grouse Mitigation Committee and the Gunnison Valley Land Preservation Board. She also helps coordinate fundraising and outreach events for HCCA. Hiking in our inspirational public lands and wilderness areas is her passion.

Frank Coleman
Frank has extensive experience in energy and environmental policy, having worked for the Carter Administration in the Department of Energy and for the Clinton/Gore Administration at the EPA. As a compliance specialist in pesticide production, registration and enformcement issues, Frank's understanding and experience adds an important perspective to the Board. Frank has written numerous articles about the "highly mediated view of nature in America," which have appeared in publications from Ethics, Place, and the Environment to Adbusters.

Billy Rankin
Billy has been an ambassador for the natural world for the past 18-years. He moved to Crested Butte as a young outdoorsman and loved the intact ecosystem surrounding town and how easy it was to get out into the woods to recreate. Billy spent 15-years taking Outward Bound courses into the backcountry. Billy engaged hundreds of students and helped them understand the importance of the natural world while trying to instill wilderness ethics in his students. Billy is a Leave No Trace (LNT) Master trainer and helps teach other outdoor professionals how to teach LNT Ethics. Most recently Billy was on the Crested Butte town council where he helped with the acquisition of open space and supported smart deliberate growth keeping the surrounding environment at the forefront of every political decision. Billy joined the board at HCCA in hopes to help the organization fulfill their mission and protect the amazing environmental attributes of this valley. Dan Morse - Executive Director
Now the Executive Director, between 2006 and 2009 Dan served as the organization's Public Lands Director working to conserve the Gunnison Basin. Dan joined HCCA in 2006 after several years of working on BLM Resource Management Plans as a consultant for a private firm. His background is in planning and management for recreation and wilderness, and he has experience as a facilitator for collaborative groups. Prior to his work in consulting Dan worked seasonally for the U.S. Forest Service as a recreation and wilderness technician. Dan holds an M.S. in Forest Economics from Northern Arizona University and a B.S. in Natural Resources Recreation from Colorado State University. In his leisure time Dan is also a flight instructor, and enjoys getting away to hike, mountain bike, camp and fly fish. Residence: Crested Butte. Email address: dan@hccaonline.org
Steve Glazer - Water Director
Steve is the former owner of Crested Butte’s first movie theater and one of the founding board members of the Crested Butte State Bank. He filed his own successful water court case against AMAX mining corporation in the early 1980’s and has worked to protect water resources in this area since 1969. He is the President of Coal Creek Watershed Coalition and Standard Mine Technical Advisory Committee, the chair of the Sierra Club’s Rocky Mountain Chapter water resources committee, member of Sierra Club's National Rivers Committee and the Southwest Waters Committee, sits on the Colorado Water Quality Forum. Steve has also served on the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District Board since 1999, and the Gunnison County Environmental Health Board since 1996. Matt Reed, Public Lands Director
Matt Reed is thrilled to return to the Gunnison Valley as Public Lands Director for HCCA. A 2000 graduate of Gunnison High School, Matt received his Bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Southern California. While in California, he interned and worked for National Geographic Feature Films and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Matt then attended Pace University School of Law in New York, receiving his J.D. with a certificate of specialization in environmental law in 2009. At Pace, Matt focused on environmental, water, and climate change law and policy. His interests include collecting books and old records, reading, and hiking and camping in the mountains with his wife, Suzanne.

Chris Menges - Climate and Clean Energy Director
Chris has been with HCCA coordinating the Climate and Clean Energy program since the spring of 2008. Chris’ diverse professional background includes time spent at other conservation minded NGO’s including DC-based Friends of the Earth where he worked on international environmental policy issues and Salida Colorado’s Greater Arkansas River Nature Association. He also has experience working for land management agencies having spent a summer as a river ranger for Colorado State Parks. Additionally, Chris possesses a well tuned business acumen and knowledge of online and marketing technology gained from working as Colorado Kayak Supply’s brand manager and online marketing manager for several years before joining HCCA. He holds a BS in Environmental Science with a Policy emphasis from Western State College in Gunnison, CO. When not working, Chris enjoys being outdoors, especially in his kayak or on a snowboard, as well as travel and photography. Email address: chris@hccaonline.org
Meghan Craft - Administrator and Membership Director
Meghan Craft graduated Cum Laude from Western State College in 2004 with a degree in Political Science and minor in Anthropology. Meghan has worked for Red Lady Realty and Peak Property Management & Sales. She has been an office administrator and manager and legal assistant. Now she brings her amazing organization skills to support our efforts on behalf of Upper Gunnison River Basin ecosystems. Meghan loves camping and hiking in this beautiful valley, climbing, fly fishing, snowboarding, and positive healthy living.
